This course will review the various presentations and other clinically relevant characteristics of depression and anxiety. A few of the topics included are signs and symptoms, available treatments, and age and gender differences in clinical presentation. Participants will also examine current research supporting benefits of massage therapy as a part of the treatment for these conditions.
This course will examine the many potential benefits of massage therapy in the workplace as evidenced in current research. This course will discuss how massage therapy may be helpful not just for employee wellness and morale, but also for the employers who offer or allow massage at work. During the course, the findings of several research studies will be discussed as well as what factors may be considered when proposing workplace massage therapy to an employer.
With a heavy emphasis on hands-on practice, this course provides training in the modality of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM). Smooth handheld instruments or tools made of various materials are applied to soft tissue for myofascial benefit. As an extension of the hand, with no electrical or invasive properties, these techniques used in this course respect the scope of practice and boundaries of the NY licensed massage therapist. While a variety of instruments/tools may be used during the course in the interest of thorough instruction, no specific instrument manufacturer is endorsed.
This course will review the etiology, progression and characteristics of fibromyalgia and help participants gain a more complete understanding of sufferers of this condition. Students will learn how to effectively communicate with clients with fibromyalgia as well as how to perform an effective pre-therapy interview. Students will also learn how to approach goal setting and client interaction during therapy.
This course will explore a variety of common respiratory pathologies as well as the muscles that may become dysfunctional in clients with these conditions. Anatomy and physiology of this musculature will be discussed followed by a hands-on component of the course during which treatment techniques will be demonstrated by the instructor and then practiced by participants under observation by the instructor.
This course will explore the benefits of proper breathing and stretching as a valuable addition to the self-care regimen of massage therapists as well as other manual therapists. Common repetitive stress injuries will be discussed as well as the role of stretching in their prevention. In addition to physical demands, participants will discuss the mental and emotional demands of massage therapy and the role of being grounded and present in coping with those demands. This course includes a fun and interactive workshop session.
In this course we will learn about the fascinating practice of cupping therapy and the valuable addition it can be to a massage therapist’s current techniques. When it comes to cupping, proper application makes all the difference. For this reason, this course includes a strong emphasis on hands on application and instructor assistance. The strength of this class is that the focus is not merely to learn to apply cupping, but to do so safely and proficiently.

This interactive course will explore the sometimes blurry world of ethics. While some professional scenarios are black and white and easily navigated, others require careful consideration to arrive at the most responsible and ethical course of action. Together, participants will examine topics such as scope of practice issues and social media.
This course addresses assessment and treatment of the gluteal region through application of a conservative, yet effective approach. It is fairly common to encounter clients who are apprehensive in relation to treatment of this region, voicing valid concerns regarding modesty and hesitation often stemming from unfamiliarity with the significant therapeutic benefits. Techniques addressed in this course offer a nonintrusive progressive approach that may be performed with the draped client or with clients who are fully clothed and may be applied with varying degrees of pressure and depth.
